What could be more wonderful than broad smiles, laughter and hugs with old friends? Glenmore Lodge was full of AAC(UK) members for five days, hiking, climbing, scrambling, orienteering, navigating, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking – and of course chatting, eating, and even dancing! Weather-wise it was perfect at first, but later on we made good use of the drying room. The AGM, attended by 100 members, was good fun, with sincere thank-yous to all our fabulous volunteers and leaders. And our journeys home were made more interesting by flooded roads and rail lines. I wouldn’t have missed a moment of it – and am already looking forward to Plas-y-Brenin next October. A full report appears elsewhere.
The Activities Team has worked harder than ever with our leaders, to advertise tasty trips for all of us to enjoy. We’ll be sorting out our maps, tickets, gear and boots soon for snowshoe and ski tours, and then hutting. I personally can’t wait to be back in Austria again in the company of friends who love the pastures, the woods, the hills, and the rocky peaks as much as I do.
We’re very grateful to Carew Reynell for acting as our Reporting Accountant since January 2020. Carew would like to step down by October 2024. This voluntary role for a Club member involves checking the Club’s accounts and its financial conduct and preparing a short report for the AGM booklet. Liaison is with the Treasurer, Nigel Phipps, and the Club office. If you might be interested, please contact the Office.
