Fun in the winter

Yes, it’s now summer but, after a very successful 2022-23 winter programme, our keen snowsports leaders will already be thinking about next winter’s tours and meets. This year, Club members enjoyed a choice of almost 20 snowshoeing and ski-touring trips in the Alps and winter walking meets in the UK. Friendships were also renewed on organised day walks, including a surprisingly snowy December one in south-east London’s heathland sunshine. And for those who logged in to the lectures, the treats varied from Tajikistan to the Cleveland Way. None of this happens without the Club’s trained leaders and the Activities Team co-ordinators working together to organise attractive holidays and entertainments. We’re very grateful for their dedication and hard work.

Fun in the summer too!

We know our members love their outdoor activities in the summer. Lots of us travel to Austria (after all, that’s the idea of the Club isn’t it) whether for privately organised adventures, or hutting tours and training courses put on by the Club. If you’d like to pep up your August, have a look at the Family Bergfest at the Dresdner Hütte in the Stubai. All ages are welcome to share lots of fun activities and the especially congenial atmosphere in a big mountain hut. For inspiration see the great article in the Winter 2022 Newsletter, by participants of the 2022 Family Bergfest. Newsletters are easy to find on the AAC(UK)’s website home page.

AGM 2023 at Glenmore Lodge – 75th anniversary celebrations

To round it all off this year, our 75th Anniversary Autumn Gathering in early October (see page 9) will offer wonderful Highland days out on rock, on paths and on water. There’s plenty of space if you book a bed early. The AGM is on Friday evening 6 October. Any member who wishes to put forward a resolution for the meeting should send it to the Office by midnight on 6 July.

Organising a meet

A meet is a holiday in any beautiful spot in the UK or elsewhere. Any keen member can organise one, using the Meet Guidelines (Website / Resources). You reserve some accommodation, eg in a hut, or a house in a village. Then write an information sheet and get it approved. Then advertise and wait for people to book. Give it a try!
