Leopard’s bane is a member of the Asteraceae family. Distributed extensively across the Alps on a variety of stony terrain. It owes its species name to the Arabic dourondj, referring to a plant that was either poisonous or of use in medicine. Its flowerheads are solitary, while the broad light green leaves are hairy, toothed, veined and oval. It grows quite tall, to a maximum of 40cm, and flowers July-August up to 2900m altitude.
