Poet's Daffodil
Dichter Narzisse or Narcissus poeticus

Photograph taken on the south-facing slopes of Grabnerstein (1848m), on the north Styrian side of the Haller Mauern by Walfried Raab/Kate Isaak.

Narcissus poeticus is native to Austria as well as central and southern Europe, and widely naturalised in many other countries including the UK.

Flowering between April to May in the form of a single bloom, the poet’s daffodil grows up to 40cm in height. The fragrant flower is 4 – 6cm in diameter, formed from six white, swept- back petals which surround an orange corolla.

Plants typically grow in clusters, often covering large areas, and in some regions can be found at altitudes of up to 2300m.
