Marilyn Hartley died suddenly on 9thSeptember 2020. She, with her husband Allan [former President of AAC(UK)], was a long time and active member, and was awarded her 50 year badge in 2017.
The following year AAC(UK) celebrated its 70th anniversary and Marilyn was heavily involved, helping Allan organise the 70th Anniversary Meet at the Rudolfshütte in Austria.
In earlier years they were often absent from such events due to Allan many times working abroad, in Africa and the Middle East. But later they were to be seen together contributing to the Club.
Allan and Marilyn organised many very enjoyable summer meets in Austria for Senior Members. Marilyn was unfailingly cheerful, ready to ensure everyone had a good time and always on hand to ensure all arrangements went smoothly. For the slower walkers, Marilyn was always attentive, and nobody was ever “left out”.
Many Austrian ÖAV guests will remember her hospitality when they stayed with Allan and Marilyn en-route to the AAC(UK) AGMs they attended. So will UK members. Indeed, one member recalled “a long time ago camping in their garden for a weekend that included caving, when they were both very welcoming.”
Marilyn’s cheerful presence at AAC(UK) events will be greatly missed.
