Native to the mountain regions of France, the Apennine Peninsula, Central Europe, eastern Central Europe, the Balkan Peninsula and East Europe. The alpine moon daisy belongs to the aster family and is a perennial. It grows 5 - 10cm high with a rosette of simple leaves, each rosette bearing one flower. The flowers are white with a vivid yellow core. They like gravelly, stony ground or loam which is relatively dry and tolerate tem ratures down to -23ºC. There are several German names induding Alpen-Margerite, Alpen Wuchenblume and Zwerg-Margerite.
