Beddgelert and Moel Hebog

by John Cairns

14 ]uly this year promised to be a hot day, again, as we set off from Cae Ysgubo, Lancashire Mountaineering Club hut at Beddgelert. Emma, Ann Marie, Debbie, Neil, Chris, Islay the collie and myself walked along the river to Beddgelert where we met Jose.

Crossing over the tracks of the Welsh Highland railway we steadily made our way up to the summit of Moel Hebog (782n) having several stops to admire the view (good excuse). Lunch was taken on the summit but with some darker clouds appearing and a chillier wind, we set off down the steep grassy descent before climbing up through the slot in the rock wall up to Moel yr Ogof. A pleasant path took us through the forest, with some welcome shade, back to the well-earned delights of a double ice cream and for some, a pint of Wales' finest beer. A 3 course communal evening meal was enjoyed in the hut with the odd glass of wine to end a fantastic day out in the hills.
