70 YEARS YOUNG!

AAC(UK) 70th Anniversary

2018 is a very special year for us to remember the occasion at the end of the Second World War when a British Army Major came out of the Alpenvererein Office in Innsbruck on 27 July 1948, clutching a piece of paper establishing ÖAV Sektion England (now Sektion Britannia). The man who did this was Major Walter lngham who, with Henry Crowther, would lead our Club in the early post-war years.

To celebrate, in July we will have a 3 day meet in Austria based at the superb Berghotel Rudolfshütte in the Granatspitzgruppe mountains near Zell am See in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Arrive Thursday 12 July, depart Monday 16 July. There is plenty to do with hiking, mountaineering and climbing as well as the hotel’s spa facilities. On Saturday night there will be a Festabend with guests from the wider Alpenverein. Enquiries to the AAC(UK) Office on 01929 556 870 or aac.office@aacuk.org.uk Book early to avoid disappointment!

Rudolfshütte

This will be followed by one of Allan Hartley’s 'Senior' tours in Fulpmes, Stubaital, from 16 to 22 July.

There will be an anniversary edition of the Newsletter in July. Then, in October, we are having a celebratory AGM weekend at the Hydro Hotel in Bowness-on- Windermere. We also have a special anniversary 'buff’ on sale for £10 from the AAC(UK) Office.
